Government in Los Angeles is broken. Paralysis rules. Optimism in the future of our great city has faded, while mediocrity has become the order of the day.

Are you satisfied with politicians who put their own interests above the public interest? Are you satisfied watching businesses leave our city one after another, while our families endure the highest unemployment rate among America's ten largest cities? Are you satisfied with schools that fail our kids, streets that are choked with traffic, and a quality of life that diminishes day by day?

I'm not satisfied.

And that's why I'm running for Mayor –– to fix our broken city government; to lead Los Angeles forward with the best ideas, the right priorities for our families, and the strong, proven leadership we need for a change.

I had a life in the private sector before I ran for public office. I learned the value of hard work and entrepreneurship at my family's small business in the Valley. I learned what real leadership means working under Mayor Tom Bradley and President Bill Clinton, and together we achieved great things. And I created jobs and protected our film industry as an executive at DreamWorks SKG.

When I finally ran for public office at the age of 40, I distinguished myself as a City Councilmember who focused on the basic quality of life issues that matter to our neighborhoods. As City Controller, I've been a tough and relentless fiscal watchdog, identifying over $160 million in waste, fraud and abuse, much of which our current City Council has failed to act on.

As Mayor, I won't let that happen. To me, every dollar matters. It's your money - not the politicians'. I'll put every dollar saved into the city's biggest priorities, and I won't rest until we achieve the change we need.

As a mother with a son in our public schools, as a lifelong Angeleno, and as a leader with a record of achievement in both the public and private sectors, I trust you will see that I am the only candidate with the knowledge and experience – but also the right priorities and values – to lead Los Angeles forward.
