With Matching Funds, Greuel Breaks $3.4 Million Total Raised

With roughly five months left before the March 5th Primary Election, today the Wendy Greuel for Mayor campaign announced that it had raised a sizable $2.8 million for the primary election. Stepping up the campaign's fundraising pace, Greuel raised $592,000 in just three months.

As of the September 30 deadline, Greuel had amassed a substantial war chest with a cash on hand figure of over $2,249,000. This is more than the $2.2 million raised by winning candidate Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa during the entire primary campaign in 2005.

More than $667,000 of the funds Greuel has raised to date are expected to qualify for matching funds, which will bring her total raised to $3,467,000.

"Today’s fundraising report is testament to the wide breadth of support that my campaign has built throughout Los Angeles," said Greuel. "I am deeply humbled and truly grateful for the trust that thousands of Angelenos have placed in my campaign. Their support gives me energy and confidence, and I know that together, we can steer our city back to brighter days.”

Furthermore, today’s report demonstrates Greuel’s robust low-dollar fundraising network, with a total of 6,157 contributions from 4,782 individuals, with 48% of contributions under $250.

Beyond fundraising, the Greuel campaign has seen a surge in momentum from recent endorsements, including former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg, civil rights and labor icon Dolores Huerta, and civil rights trailblazer John Mack. This powerful trio will play a policy and leadership role in her campaign.

In recent weeks Greuel has also earned the support of State Assemblywomen Bonnie Lowenthal,Betsy Butler, and Nancy Skinner; along with State Senator Fran Pavley; and a host of leading conservationists.

Significantly, Greuel is leading the field of candidates in the race for critical labor endorsements, and has already won early endorsements from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts (IATSE), United Steel Workers (USW), Transportation Communications Union (TCU) Local 1315, Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1277, and the Operating Engineers Local 501.

What Matters to Wendy

"Everywhere I go, Angelenos tell me the same thing.

"They're frustrated with government. They believe the city doesn't work and they don't see a clear set of priorities on how to fix it. They want someone who they know will prioritize job creation and get our economy moving again. And, they want better schools for our kids.

"These are issues I will champion as Mayor."
